The term “connected light” and IoT are the new buzzwords constantly overheard in the industry. If lighting is to be a part of the connected system, how can Designer’s best engage in the process and maintain integrity of the design and quality of the lit environment? Designers need to be an integral part of the decision-making process and the first step is to understand our role in this newly evolved paradigm. This session will review opportunities for connected light in typical project environments; discuss the lighting designer’s enhanced role as well as providing a knowledge base on technology options and features.
- The Attendee will be able to analyze goals and objectives for the use of connected light systems.

- The Attendee will identify strategies for teamwork on connected light projects.
- The Attendee will compare and contrast control topologies used to achieve a connected goal.
Ardra Paige Zinkon is the President of Tec Studio, a lighting and technology design firm located in Columbus, Ohio. She is recognized as a Certified Lighting Designer (CLD) by the Certified Lighting Design Commission and is a fully accredited Professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). Ms. Zinkon is also an active member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) where she currently serves as Co-Chair to the newly created IoT Connected Lighting Committee. Ms. Zinkon regularly serves as a guest lecturer at the Ohio State University, Miami University and Kent State. Her expertise within the lighting industry is regularly sought out, she has presented at Lightfair International seven times over the past decade on a variety of subjects. Additional national speaking engagements include: IALD Enlighten Americas Conference, IES Annual Conference, NeoCon, and NeoCon East and GovEnergy.
